“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone, but if it dies, it bears much fruit”. John 12:24.
General Reflection:
When a grain falls into the earth it endures the tests of the weather and elements - heat, drought, too much rain, typhoons, strong winds being choked by weeds. We don’t really know how, but this grain that falls into the ground will germinate, sprout, grow and yield harvest.
We may not know how, but we know why and who makes this happen, it is the Lord. He provides heat, rain and winds for the plants to cross-pollinate. Sometimes we do not know how we can weather the storms in our lives, but we know that we can overcome them if we put our trust in Jesus. We do not know what the future holds, but we know who holds our future.
Let’s us die of our fear, our old selves of self doubts, hesitations, weaknesses and self limitations. Most importantly, let us die of our sins. We put limits into what we can do because of the ‘weeds’ in our life, hence preventing us to bear much fruit. We need to rid ourselves of these ‘weeds’ and be nourished and made pure by the Word of God, Sacraments and constant prayers.
Remember, if you continue holding on to your present life, you may lose it for the next.
Personal Reflection:
Have I died of my old self, my old ways or do I continue holding on to my life in this world? Have I died of my fears, insecurities and worries and have put my complete trust in God?
What are the “weeds in my life”, things that keep on worrying me and preventing me from being productive and fruitful?
