“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrew 12:2)
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
(Col 3: 1-2)
General Reflections:
Keeping our eyes on Jesus is not an easy thing to do. Distractions are all around us and we are caught in the midst of a sinful world that is in opposition with our Creator and Saviour. But if we remain fixed on Jesus, our lives will be transformed which can bring clarity to who we are and what our purpose is, help us grow abundantly in love and open the door for a tremendous amount of blessings.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and now sitting down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. Let Jesus truly be the “source and summit of our life”.
Fixing our eyes on Jesus means turning away from the values and lure of this world but instead look for the things of heaven.
How do we keep our eyes on Jesus? Fixing our eyes on Jesus implies an intentional and continuous focus on Jesus, placing Him at the centre of our life; our thoughts, actions, plans and decisions.
Personal Reflections:
Do you have your eyes always fixed on Jesus or are you easily distracted by what are happening around you?
Name few of those things that distract you from focusing on Jesus and lure you to the values of this world? In what ways can you avoid these distractions and instead look for the things of heaven?
What must you give up to have more time with Jesus and make Him the centre of your life? Are you willing to put a timetable to change your priorities and focus more in Jesus?
Let us pray:
Lord, help us to keep our eyes on you. Please help us this day to keep our eyes upon you, to remember Your truths, to proclaim Your faithfulness, and to fear no evil, for you are with us. Lord, help us to focus on You always and teach us to place You at the centre of our lives; our thoughts, actions, plans and decisions.
We love You, O Lord. We praise Your Most Holy Name and thank You for reminding us of Your Glory. In Jesus name! Amen!
